Built in the 18th century, it was the home of historian, George Ormerod, (1785-1873) who wrote the "History of the County Palatinate and City of Chester" (three volumes 1819). It is now the home of local historian John Peter Hess who is Chair of Backford and Mollington Local History Society.

Noteable publications are the books titled, "Beneath the Surface" Volumes 1, 2 and "Parish Reminicances". These are a series of historical essays from the Cheshire Townships of the Parish.
