A non profit making, community based pre-school, located in the grounds of the local primary school. The pre-school has the advantage of a small countryside setting which means that children can engage with their rural environment and local community activities.

The privately owned Mere Farm Fisheries will provide permits for limited fishing during selected months. Please ask permission and obtain a permit before venturing onto the private farm land. Check out Mere Farm Fisheries Facebook page for contacts and details.
The towpath for the Shropshire Union canal borders the southern edge of our villages. At the weekend the tow path is busy with people walking, running and cycling between the National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port, The Countess of Chester Health Park, Chester and beyond.
Local footpaths signs dotted around the villages, will point you in the direction of field walks.

A rural, 3 mile, one hour, 6000 step, circular route offers a simple solution for keeping fit.
Start anywhere along the route which passes the school then heads up Grove Road, along Coalpit Lane, left onto ownfield Lane and then left again, down Well lane back to Grove Road and the school.
Why not meet a friend and start a trend? Failing that, the Countess of Chester Country Park offers Nordic Walking and more.
Sustrans cycle route 56 follows the railway line through Lea-by-Backford, then towards the A41 and onto the canal tow-path or in the other direction, up the Wirral penisular towards Thurstaton Country Park.
